Jumping exercises are an essential component of many sports players training programs. They play an important part in developing strength and agility, whilst also improving a person’s vertical leap ability.
Jumping exercises are performed with the aim of enabling you to leap higher. Through repetition, your leg, knee, and abdominal strength will improve. This will then lead to gains in your performance.
Before You Begin Jumping Exercises
It is very important to ensure that you stretch and warm up correctly before beginning your exercises to increase vertical jump. You can do this by gently stretching, taking a light jog, and then using a jumping rope. The rope is a great way to increase the elasticity of your body, and improve your flexibility.
Some Examples Of Vertical Jumping Exercises

Low Squat and Ankle Jump
- Begin by squatting down as far as you can on the balls of your feet. Your feet should NOT be flat on the floor… Rather you should be on your toes.
- Stay in this position, and bounce up and down.
- You should avoid bouncing so high that your legs become straight. Rather, you should keep your legs quite close to your chest.
- Concentrate on the amount of force you use. The more force you put in, the stronger your legs will develop.
This jumping exercise requires enough room that an imaginary square can be made on the floor, with the points of the square approximately two foot apart. Visualize this square, and imagine that each point has a number one through to 4.
- Keep your feet together, and stand on point number 1.
- From here, jump to point number 2.
- From there, jump sideways to point number 3, but do not turn your body.
- Then, jump backwards to point number 4.
- And finally, jump to your left back to your starting point, which is number 1.
